I’m starting a new weekly entry called “Movie Monday” where I review a movie I saw over the week. This week I saw “Lights Out.”

I’ve been wanting to see this for a while now and I finally had the opportunity. This movie is about a figure that only comes out when the lights are turned off. They are unable to step into the light so they only thrive in the dark.
Starting with the good, I thought the concept was great! There are people out there who are afraid of the dark and this movie does a great job showcasing this fear. The acting was good overall. I didn’t see any major issues with the acting. This movie is very short, clocking in at 1 hour and 21 minutes, which isn’t necessarily a good thing, but what made it good was I felt there was no unnecessary scenes. The last thing I thought the movie did well was throw a curve ball at the end. The ending was surprising, but this was the only time in the film that had my eyes open wide. Which leads me into the bad.
I thought the movie was predictable for the majority of the movie. For example, the protagonist would back up slowly and the figure was inside a door that was behind her. Another example is the protagonist reached down to grab something and a hand popped out and grabbed her. I knew those moments were coming and there were others I thought were predictable. There were a couple of moments where I got “scared,” but had the feeling of being scared because I was more so trying to solve the mystery within the movie.

Overall I thought it was a good horror experience. If you’re looking for a movie that is different from the rest and you want to see a scary movie, then I think this movie would be for you.
What did you think of the film? Did you enjoy it? Are you hoping for a sequel, or should this be put to rest? What would you like to see me review next? Let me know in the comments!
